How to identify these both fabrics?

Conclusion

What is nylon fabric?

Nylon is a generic designation for a family of synthetic polymers composed of polyamides(repeating units linked by amide links). Nylon is a thermoplastic silky material, generally made from petroleum, that can be melt-processed into fibers, films,or shapes.Nylon polymers can be mixed with a wide variety of additives to achieve many different property variations. One of them is nylon material fabric, which found significant commercial applications in bags and clothes industry.

Nylon fabric dyeability is better in synthetic fibers, light wearing, good waterproof and windproof performance, high abrasion resistance, strength and elasticity are very good. Not fast to sunlight and easy to aging.

Advantages of nylon fabric

First of all, nylon has the same toughness of equipment strength as polyester, so it has excellent performance in terms of stretch resistance and abrasion resistance. These characteristics also greatly improve the practicability of nylon, that is why in the market. Many outdoor jackets or waterproof suits are made of nylon.

Secondly, nylon has extremely high heat resistance. Crystalline nylon will not damage the quality even in an environment of 150 degrees Celsius. Therefore, nylon is not easy to damage the fabric due to high temperature during processing.

In addition to the fact that nylon itself is non-toxic and harmless, it will not harm the human body no matter it is produced or worn. In addition, nylon has the characteristics of easy dyeing and easy forming, which provides for the design and production of clothing and bags convenient.

Finally, nylon has outstanding abrasion resistance and corrosion resistance. It is resistant to corrosive substances such as gasoline, alcohol and salt. Therefore, bags made of nylon fabrics have strong corrosion resistance, so it can be said that it is It is a kind of fabric that is relatively easy to take care of. It can be thrown directly into the washing machine to wash.

Disadvantages of nylon fabric

The water absorption capacity is poor, and wearing nylon fabric bags in the hot summer will have a stuffy feeling, and the wearing feeling is not good as wearing linen or cotton bags.

Because static electricity is easy to stimulate human skin, it will have a great impact on human health in long term. Therefore, if you want to Nylon has weak antistatic ability, and it is common for clothes to have static electricity.wear nylon clothes when the weather is dry, it is recommended to spray first Water.

Nylon is resistant to high temperature but not low temperature. This defect is determined by the characteristics of the fiber, and it is generally difficult to improve.

Nylon also is poor light resistance, easy to become yellow, and the color fastness is not good when you exposure to the sun for a long time.

Nylon fabric price:

Finally, let us look at the price of nylon fabrics. Generally speaking, nylon will be more affordable than natural fibers. The wholesale price of nylon fabrics is about US$1.2-US$.4.59 per meter. Which s decided by the kind of nylon fabric you choose.

What is polyester fabric

Polyester , which is an important variety of synthetic fibers, the commercial name is called polyester fibers. A fiber-forming polymer prepared from refined terephthalic acid (PTA) or dimethyl terephthalate (DMT) and ethylene glycol (EG) through esterification or ester exchange and polycondensation reactions ——Polyethylene terephthalate (PET), a fiber made by spinning and post-processing.

Polyester fabric characteristic

Advantages of polyester fabric

1. High toughness. The short fiber strength is 2.6~5.7cN/dtex, and the high tenacity fiber is 5.6~8.0cN/dtex. Due to its low hygroscopicity, its wet strength and dry strength are basically the same. The impact strength is 4 times higher than nylon and 20 times higher than viscose fiber.

2.Good flexibility. The elasticity is close to that of wool, and it can almost completely recover when it stretches 5% to 6%. The wrinkle resistance is better than other fibers, that is, the fabric is not wrinkled and has good dimensional stability. The modulus of elasticity is 22~141cN/dtex, which is 2~3 times higher than nylon. .Polyester fabric has high strength and elastic recovery ability, so it is durable, anti-wrinkle and non-ironing.

3. Heat-resistant polyester is made by melt spinning, and the formed fiber can be heated and melted again, which is a thermoplastic fiber. The melting point of polyester is relatively high, but the specific heat capacity and thermal conductivity are small, therefore the heat resistance and thermal insulation of polyester fiber are higher. It is the best among synthetic fibers.Compared to nylon, polyester has good color fastness, its color will not easy to be changed when you exposure it under the sun in a long time. That is because polyester has a smooth surface and tightly arranged internal molecules, polyester is the most heat-resistant fabric among synthetic fabrics.

4. Polyester fabric is super elastic. Repeatedly rubbing the polyester fabric will quickly recover its original shape without leaving wrinkles.

Disadvantages of polyester fabric

The water absorption capacity is also poor, and is bad than nylon. You could not use this kind of material bag close to your body when you use it in hot summer.

Hard and tough hand feeling, not soft and smooth as nylon when you touch it.

This kind fabric also looks not brighter as nylon,  it has a little dark and has poor air permeability.

Polyester also has weak antistatic ability.

Polyester fabric price:

Finally, let us look at the price of polyester fabrics. Generally speaking, polyester will be more cheaper than nylon. The wholesale price of polyester fabrics is about US$0.4-US$.3.85 per meter. Which s decided by the kind of polyester fabric you choose.

Very easy confused weather nylon and polyester material

210D, 210T, 600D,1680D, there is lots of these kind calling, many people will be puzzled with these items. Part of people tel that is nylon material, a few people think this is polyester material. D is the abbreviation of DENIER (denier). It is a way of expressing the fineness of chemical fiber. It refers to the weight of 9000 meters of filament at the nominal moisture rate. It is also called denier. The larger the D, the thicker the spinning yarn. These is nothing related to the fabric composition. Polyester fiber and nylon are chemical fiber fabrics, so the specifications are generally described in this way. Therefore, 210D, 210T, 600D,1680D such kind called are all specifications of combed cotton. Combed cotton can be nylon or polyester fiber. Therefore we could not tell 210D, 420D, 600D,1680D is nylon or polyester, as what is there decided on which kind of yarn it is made of. Now let us check the difference among these we often heard for polyester and nylon.

210D : This kind of fabric which we often use it for the lining or compartment of many bags, as thread is thinner, the density is smaller, the texture is particularly thin. Hand feeling isvery exquisite. The warp and weft threads of the fabric are all made of polyester FDY150D/36F. The fabric is staggered on a water jet loom using plain weave, and the warp and weft density is 360X210.

420D: The warp of the fabric is made of polyester air-changing yarn, and the weft thread is made of 160D polyester air-changing yarn as raw material. It is a plain weave structure, and the product is woven by water jet. After the grey fabric is dyed, finished and coated, it has the advantages of soft hand feeling, strong drape, novel style, waterproof and fireproof performance, etc. We often use it for the outer of bags.

600D : which is often be used for kinds of bags. The warp and weft yarns of this fabric are made of polyester DTY300D yarns, which are interwoven on a water jet loom with a coarse-point variable permeable weave. After the fabric is relaxed, refined, pre-shaped, alkali-reduced, and soft-set, the reverse side of the fabric is then passed through the rubber-plastic polyester layer. The texture is fine, the luster is soft, and the waterproof and fireproof properties are good.

1680D:The full name of 1680D is 1680D double-strand Oxford cloth. The original raw material nylon material has strong tensile strength, abrasion resistance, high density and water resistance. 1680D is the abbreviation of 1680D double-strand Oxford cloth. It is a plain weave fabric with double warp and double weft. The original raw material is nylon. Usually two 420D nylon yarns are wound and twisted, and then combined into a twisted 840D yarn. Because the weaving method is double warp and double weft, the two 840D yarns are 1680D double strands. 1680D double-strand Oxford cloth has extremely strong tensile strength and abrasion resistance, and also has extremely high density and waterproof ability. Its waterproof performance generally reaches the current waterproof level of IPX3 or IPX4. In addition, 1680D double-strand Oxford cloth has Noble luster, 1680D material is now generally used for high-end outdoor products or tool bags.

How to identify nylon fabric and polyester fabric?

1.Nylon fabrics have brighter gloss and smoother hand feel, while polyester fabrics are darker and rougher than nylon. You can scrape with your nails. After the nails are scraped, the obvious traces are tapen is polyester,  and the less obvious traces are nylon.

2. The simplest to tell the difference between nylon and polyester is the burning method. When it is burned, the smoke of nylon is black, while the smoke of nylon is white is polyester.  We could also identify them from the burning left after burning is completed. We pinch the left of polyester, it will shatter, but nylon is in a plastic. Nylon, when it is near the flame, quickly curls and melts into a white gel. It melts and drops and bubbles in the flame. There is no flame when it burns. It is difficult to continue burning when it is put away from the flame. It emits a celery smell. The left burning light brown melt is not easy to grind after cooling. Polyester is easy to ignited, and it melts when it is near the flame. When it burns, it emits black smoke while melting. It shows a yellow flame and emits an aromatic smell. After burning, the ashes are dark brown lumps, which can be broken with fingers.

3. Nylon generally has better elasticity than polyester, and the dyeing temperature of nylon is 100 degrees. It is dyed with neutral or acid dyes. The high temperature resistance is worse than polyester, but the strength and anti-pilling is better. The dyeing temperature of polyester is 130 degrees, and the hot-melt method is generally baked below 200 degrees. The main characteristics of polyester have good stability. Generally, adding a small amount of polyester to clothes can help anti-wrinkle and plasticity. Its shortcut is it is easy to generate static electricity and easy to pilling.

Conclusion

This article is what we know to introduce to you the exact difference between Nylon and polyester, we could not tell which material is the better one, we suggest is find the suitable one. Thanks for reading. We will keep update on what we find out.
